You are what you read?

We talked about the role of physical appearance in attracting mates in class Tuesday. Other accessories, like what you are reading, can also convey important information about your "type" to prospective mates. From my good friend Dave Evans:

“While we rarely admit it, what we read speaks, well, volumes about us.” Sara Nelson, in So Many Books, So Little Time, goes on to tell a story about a woman who saw the co-founder of MTV sitting near her and opted to read The New Yorker rather than Mademoiselle so that “this cute guy would think she was the kind of person who read something serious and worthy.” They went on to marry and have a child.

Mostly, I read off a computer screen, so I don't send out too many reading signals. Perhaps, though, reading the book you all have seen me carrying around, "How to Make Anyone Fall in Love with You," while waiting to board a plane next to Jessica Biel was not the best choice.

(Ok, so I was actually reading "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", but the other book, "How to Talk to Anyone About Anything," was in my bag.)
